METRO PARKS: First of 3 overnight camp outings Saturday

For three nights this summer, Metro Parks Tacoma is opening a beach for camping, starting Saturday at Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park.

Attendees will get a tent space, snack in the evening and hot breakfast. Participants will need to bring a tent, sleeping bags, toiletries, camp chairs, swimsuits/towels, flashlights and bug spray.

Here is the schedule:

7-9 p.m.: Check-in, set-up.

9-9:30 p.m.: Evening snacks, time to explore.

9:30-11 p.m.: Activities including songs, ghost stories and crafts.

Midnight: Lights out.

6-8 a.m.: Sunrise breakfast, tent breakdown.

8:30 a.m.: Load out.

The other campouts will be Aug. 23 at Browns Point Lighthouse Park and Aug. 30 at Owen Beach.

The cost is $50 for four-person tent space; $75 for a six-person space and $100 for an eight-person space.
