Post 7 advances to tournament semis with lopsided wins

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 5, 2014

The Bellingham Post 7 baseball club earned a pair of wins during the Spokane Tournament on Saturday, July 5, to advance to the tournament's semifinals. Thirty-six teams entered the tournament, Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said.

Post 7 (27-5-1) beat Medicine Hat 7-1 and earned a 8-0 win in five innings over the Spokane Blue Devils.

Lucas Petersen threw six innings in the first game, and Pete Pennylegion, Jordan Wittenberg and Brady Shearer each recorded multi-hit games.

Davis Hampton threw five shutout innings and gave up two hits in the second game, while Petersen led the club with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.

"We played well, hit the ball well all day long," Slesk said in a phone interview. "We got key hits in key situations and didn't have a close game. Pitching and defense has been good all tournament long."

Post 7 will play for a chance to play for a title at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 6.
