Expect nighttime detours, lane closures on I-5 for Skagit River bridge work

MOUNT VERNON - Directional detours and single-lane closures on the Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River will begin Monday, July 7, and go through July 21.

Southbound I-5 traffic will be detoured onto the George Hopper Road exit from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, July 7, through July 14, except for the night of July 12.

Northbound I-5 will have single-lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. starting Monday night, July 7, to the morning of July 11; from 9 p.m. July 11 to 7 a.m. July 12; and from 9 p.m. July 13 to 5:30 a.m. July 14.

Southbound I-5 will have single-lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. July 14 through July 21, except for the night of July 19.

Northbound I-5 traffic will be detoured onto the East College Way exit from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. July 14 through July 21, except for the night of July 19.

Closures and detours are to allow the state Department of Transportation to finish painting sections of the retrofitted bridge.
