Bellingham broke high temp record by 1 degree Tuesday

BELLINGHAM - The thermometer rose just high enough Tuesday, July 1, to break the record high temperature for that date.

Tuesday's official high was 84 degrees, as recorded by the National Weather Service on equipment at Bellingham International Airport. That slid by the previous July 1 record of 83 degrees, set in 2009.

Temperatures were even higher inland in Whatcom County.

It will be cooler heading into Independence Day. July 4 picnics should be under partly sunny skies with a high around 70 degrees, according to the NWS forecast. Clouds will be increasing at night but shouldn't put a damper on fireworks shows.
