Jansen Art Center hosts July 3 artists' reception and July 6 concert with Mary Pickford films

Violinist Maria Newman and the Guemes Island Chamber Musicians perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Jansen Art Center, 321 Front St. in Lynden. The event includes a screening of two films starring Mary Pickford, "What the Daisy Said" and "Tender Hearts," with music composed by Newman. Admission is $15.

A free artists' reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Jansen Art Center, 321 Front St., Lynden, where new works include "Unexpected Weavings" by Dorothy McGuinness, "Whatcom Bounty" by Ben Mann, and a new textiles exhibit.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Jansen, the Guemes Island Chamber Musicians - violinists Maria Newman and husband Scott Hosfield, cellist Paula Hochalter and vocalist Matthew Lewis - perform film scores by Alfred Newman, his youngest daughter (and ensemble violinist) Maria Newman, and Maurice Ravel.

The event includes a screening of two films starring Mary Pickford, "What the Daisy Said" and "Tender Hearts," with music composed by Maria Newman. Admission is $15.
