Hot weather Tuesday, pleasant July 4 in Whatcom County forecast

It's time to break out the fans and stock up on Popsicles, because Whatcom County has a hot day in store Tuesday, July 1, according to the National Weather Service.

With highs in the low 80s forecast for Tuesday, Bellingham could break its record high of 83 degrees for July 1, set in 2009, NWS meteorologist Art Gaebel said.

"I think you have a pretty good shot of breaking it," Gaebel said.

Things should cool off a little for the rest of the week, with highs in the 70s through Friday, July 4.

The Independence Day forecast calls for clouds in the morning with the sun breaking through in the afternoon, "by the time everyone starts lighting the grill," Gaebel said.

Clear skies should allow for ideal conditions to watch the fireworks shows in the evening.

Though this week is expected to be dry, plenty of rain fell this spring, and Gaebel didn't think dryness should create a significant risk of fires from fireworks in the county.

A system could come through this weekend bringing a bit of wet weather with it, but things could clear up again by the beginning of next week.
