SUDDEN VALLEY The South Whatcom County Library is closed at least through the Fourth of July weekend because of construc-tion on the buildings second floor, according to a news release from the Whatcom County Library System.
The Sudden Valley Community Association, which owns the building, asked that the library be closed as a precaution during the work. It has been closed since Friday, June 27.
Library employees are developing a plan for service during the closure. Meanwhile, library items that patrons have placed on hold may be picked up from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday next door in the lobby by the Creekside Cafe.
A library staff member will be available there to manage book pickups and answer service-related questions. A toddler storytime planned for 10:30 a.m. will be held in a multi-purpose room near the YMCA, which also is next door to the library.
Return items still can be put into a drop box in front of the library at 8 Barn View Court in Sudden Valley, Gate 2.
The library opened in March after years of fundraising and thousands of hours of volunteer labor by the nonprofit Friends of the Sudden Valley Library to make it happen.
