Bicyclists using Highway 9, Mount Baker Highway warned about road work

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 28, 2014

Construction crews on Highway 9 near Acme and on Mount Baker Highway near Kendall will be repaving roads over the next few months, creating hazardous conditions for bicyclists.

Cyclists traveling on Highway 9 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. will be escorted through the work zone via truck transport. "Staging areas," set up where cellphone reception is available, will allow riders to call construction supervisors, who will have them picked up and transported through the work area.

Cyclists using these staging areas will have delays of less than 20 minutes, according to the state Department of Transportation.

No such staging areas are planned for the work zones on Mount Baker Highway. Cyclists using that route are advised to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
