Famed pianist Harold Mabern to perform in Fairhaven June 29

The Tribute Jazz Series hosts swing and hard-bop pianist Harold Mabern at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Firehouse Performing Arts Center, 1314 Harris Ave., in Bellingham as part of its Art of the Piano Trio series.

The Tribute Jazz Series hosts swing and hard-bop pianist Harold Mabern at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Firehouse Performing Arts Center, 1314 Harris Ave., as part of its Art of the Piano Trio series.

Mabern was a highly sought sideman during the '60s and '70s. During that time he was a member of guitarist Wes Montgomery's band, Miles Davis Quintet, Sonny Rollins Quartet and, most notably, a seven-year run as trumpeter Lee Morgan's pianist. He also worked with Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Hank Mobley, Blue Mitchell, Sarah Vaughan and Joe Williams.

Mabern is touring with Vancouver saxophonist Cory Weeds, bassist Adam Thomas and drummer Julian MacDonough is support of Mabern and Weeds' current CD, "As of Now."
