Local youngsters win baseball camp awards

Several youngsters aged 7-10 years old won awards during Whatcom County's Grand Slam Baseball Camp last week. Announcing those awards was baseball coach Gary Hatch.

Gavin Ortega of the Yankees won the Larry Linville Best Hitter award, Mariners' Cade Slayton won the Stephen Dember Outstanding Defensive Player award, Giants' Joe Harward won the Les Lee Mr. Hustle award and Yankees' Drew Johnson won the Wade Kind Inspirational award.

Other winners included Liam Shumacher, who played for the Dodgers and won the Andrew Jones Most Improved award, Yankees' Cade Morris who won the Super Star Champion and the Mariners team, coached by Nate Gill, won the Super Star Championship Team award.
