Stealy throws no-hitter in Post 7's 1-0 win

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 21, 2014

American Legion Post 7 pitcher David Stealy threw a seven-inning no-hitter to lead the Whatcom County club to a 1-0 win over the Seattle Tides during a tournament game Saturday, June 21, in Yakima.

Stealy threw 78 pitches, struck out six and only walked one batter while getting some great defensive help, Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview.

"Outstanding. He was on top of his game today. That's for sure," Slesk said. "I was really proud of David. He kept his composure all game today."

Jake Manson drove in Ernie Yake in the fourth inning for the only run Post 7 would need, and Joey Akers made a great play on a ball hit to deep right-center to preserve the no-hitter. Pete Pennylegion, Yake and Drew Lomsdalen had Post 7's other hits.

Post 7 will in the tournament's third- or fourth-place game Sunday, June 22.
