Post 7 wins one, drops two to start Yakima Tournament

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 20, 2014

The Bellingham Post 7 baseball team won one of its first three games during a tournament in Yakima on Thursday-Friday, June 19-20.

Post 7 spilt against Nampa, Calif. and the Yakima Beetles on Thursday, beating Nampa 9-8 and losing to Yakima 7-4. The Whatcom County club lost to Hanford 5-4 on Friday.

Josh Zavisubin was credited with the win against Nampa, and both Pete Pennylegion and Davis Hampton went 2 for 3. Jake Manson and Austin Sprague each had two hits during Post 7's loss against Yakima.

Noah Rawls earned the save in the win, and coach Steve Slesk said poor bunt defense cost Post 7 in the loss.

In the loss to Hanford, Slesk said a costly dropped fly ball ultimately was the difference in the game.

"We had a miscue, dropped fly ball in the fifth," Slesk said. "We kept fighting back, but it wasn't to be today."

Post 7 next plays against the Seattle Tides at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 21.
