Motorcyclist who crashed near Newhalem upgraded to serious condition

NEWHALEM - An Everett man who crashed his motorcycle after hitting a deer on the North Cascades Highway was upgraded to serious condition at a Seattle hospital Friday, June 20.

Glen R. Mixdorf, 65, had been riding his 2009 Kawasaki KL650 westbound at about 5 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed into a deer in the road three miles west of Newhalem, near Thornton Lakes Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Mixdorf was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he had been in critical condition and in intensive care the day after the crash, a hospital spokeswoman said. He has since been upgraded to serious condition.

Troopers found no evidence to suggest Mixdorf had been speeding. He wore a helmet and had a motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license. Troopers do not believe Mixdorf was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
