National camping event aims to promote outdoor fun

Great American Backyard Campout is coming to Olympia. Participants will camp out from 3 p.m. Saturday - 10 a.m. Sunday at Priest Point Park, 2600 East Bay Drive NE, Olympia.

Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation is teaming up with the staff from Centro (formerly Alpine Experience) to teach basic camping skills. They will show participants how to set up camp and will share tips on outdoor cooking. There will be nature-based activities for all ages.

The dinner entree and breakfast will be provided. Tents, sleeping bags and pads can be provided upon request on a first-come, first-served basis.

The cost is $49 per person.
