Finds friend an unsung war hero

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 19, 2014

I was so surprised when I read the front page article about a D-Day surviver named John Bellows. My late husband and I have been good friends with he and his wife Florence since they arrived in Bellingham 20-plus years ago. We sailed with John and went on many yacht club trips when he was the president of the Corinthian club. We also went to the Vancouver symphony once a month. I do remember a time when John and Florence went to England to visit the beaches. Up until your article on him I had not connected that the beaches were Omaha Beach, he had never mentioned D-Day. He always stated that his greatest claim to fame was courting and marrying Florence. Thank you, John, for your service!
