NEWHALEM — A motorcyclist crashed into a deer on the North Cascades Highway west of Newhalem, in the southeast corner of Whatcom County, and needed to be taken to a Seattle hospital Wednesday evening, June 18.

Glen R. Mixdorf, 65, of Everett, struck the deer at 5:09 p.m. while riding a red 2009 Kawasaki KL650 westbound on Highway 20 about three miles west of Newhalem, near Thornton Lakes Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers found no evidence to suggest Mixdorf had been speeding. He wore a helmet and had a motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected.

Mixdorf was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. An update on his condition wasn't available Wednesday night.

A story in the Everett Herald from April 2011 referred to Mixdorf as a retired Snohomish County Public Utilities District attorney.
