Whatcom farms offer bounty of berries

Summer and fall are the seasons to savor the bounty of our Northwest farms.

For a list of farms outside of Whatcom County, and details on other farms in our area that offer everything from lavender to cherries to sweet corn, go to smallfarms.wsu.edu/farms to search for a farm and crop locator, hosted by Washington State University's Small Farms Team; or go to sustainableconnections.org for details about farms, restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses that support local growers.

You also can pick up a copy of the annual Whatcom Food & Farm Finder at Bellingham Farmers Market and many other locations in Whatcom County.

Remember, seasonal changes are almost a given for farms in our area, so call ahead to see if produce is ready before venturing out.
