Feed the Need fundraiser coming soon


The Feed the Need 5K Run & Walk food bank fundraiser will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale.

Industrial Credit Union, in partnership with Nature's Path, will host the event which benefits the Whatcom County food banks.

Following the run, participants are invited to enjoy an organic breakfast, courtesy of Nature's Path.

Highlighting events will be race prizes and a raffle.

The Ferndale U12 and U11 Cal Ripken baseball teams won their divisions at the Ferndale Bombs Away Classic.

The U12 team went 4-0, beating Stanwood 1-0 in the championship game. The team is coached by Todd Andersen, Bill Hatchett and Jim Taxdahl.

The U11 team went 5-0, beating the Bellingham Titans 5-2 in the title game. The team is coached by Hank Schwarz and Andy Pelton.


Ryan Wallen, a 2013 graduate of Bellingham High School won the Semiahmoo/Loomis Trail Amateur on June 7-8 at the Loomis Trail Golf Club at Semiahmoo.

Wallen also just finished his freshman year at the University of Wyoming.


Chad Hoidal aced the No. 14 hole on Thursday, June 5, at Shuksan Golf Club.

Hoidal used a gap wedge to hit the shot on the 141 yard hole.
