Yeager's to offer weekend boat rentals at Lake Padden

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 9, 2014

BELLINGHAM - Kayaks and paddleboards will be available for rent on weekends this summer at Lake Padden Park.

Locally owned Yeager's Sporting Goods will provide watercraft in partnership with the city of Bellingham from noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from June 15 to Aug. 31.

A rental booth will be at the swim beach on the park's west entrance. Watercraft will include stand-up paddleboards; single and double sit-on-top kayaks; and Hobie and NuCanoe brand fishing kayaks.

Prices are $15 an hour and $50 a day for stand-up paddle boards and single sit-on-top kayaks; $20 an hour and $60 a day for double sit-on-top kayaks and fishing kayaks.

Hobie kayaks have a unique pedal-drive system that frees the user's hands for casting and trolling, said Dylan Rees, paddle shop manager. "That pedal drive is a great way to get around," Rees said.

Bellingham-based NuCanoe kayaks are wider with a raised seat.

Rees said all types of kayaks will be at a free demonstration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Bloedel Donovan Park swimming beach.
