Birch Bay-Lynden Road open after construction

CUSTER - Birch Bay-Lynden Road reopened to traffic three days early after closures for construction work at the railroad crossing.

The road was closed west of Portal Way for almost two weeks. It was scheduled to reopen Sunday, June 8, but opened early the morning of June 5.

Almost all the work should be done by the end of August 2014, said Kevin Thompson, Whatcom County Public Works project engineer. Installing new railroad signs and crossing arms are a few of the things left to do.

The road will stay open for the rest of construction but will have some single-lane flagged traffic control, Thompson said.
