Best Bites: Great restaurants for Whatcom family celebrations

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 5, 2014

Graduation season is upon us. That means caps and gowns, diplomas and big family get togethers.

Whether you know a senior just finishing up high school or someone getting their degree from a local college, it's a time to celebrate and come together. Here are a few local restaurants that can accommodate the big, happy family.

GUISEPPE'S AL PORTO RISTORANTE ITALIANO

Something about pasta just brings people together, and when it comes to pasta, Guiseppe's knows its stuff. If pasta's not your thing, there's also seafood, chicken and steak to choose from, as well some sumptuous desserts. To top it off, the view of Bellingham Bay is quite lovely, too.

ANTHONY'S AT SQUALICUM HARBOR AND ANTHONY'S HEARTHFIRE GRILL

Both restaurants are located right on the water and do well accommodating large groups. While the original Anthony's focuses on seafood, Hearthfire specializes in steaks and features items with a fresh-from-the-fire flare.

BILLY MCHALE'S

If your family would rather keep it casual while toasting the new grad, then Billy McHale's is a good place to go. With burgers, sandwiches and a rainbow assortment of fun drinks, there's something on the menu for just about everyone.

NOTE: Owner Kristy Knopp announced this week the restaurant will close when its lease is up at the end of June, after 22 years in business.

CHIHUAHUA FAMILY MEXICAN RESTAURANT

For quick, friendly service no matter how big the group, it's hard to beat Chihuahua. So gather round for nachos, fajitas and burritos, and clink your margaritas (virgin for the high school crowd) in honor of the graduate.
