THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJune 1, 2014

The Bellingham Chamber Chorale, with artistic director Ryan Smit, presents "Northwest Passages," at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the First Congregational Church of Bellingham, United Church of Christ, Bellingham, 2401 Cornwall Ave.

The concert features the sacred and secular works of living Pacific Northwest composers Stephen Chatman, Joan Szymko, Karen Thomas and Morten Lauridsen and the world premiere of "Elixir of the Solar Spectrum," the BCC's latest choral commission composed by Reginald Unterseher from a poem about honey by Bellingham's Carla Shafer.

Reception follows with samples of honey and visits with BCC singers, Unterseher and Shafer.

Long-time BCC member Betsy Senff has made a quilt featuring the colors evoked by Unterseher's composition and the words to the poem by Shafer. Raffle tickets are available through ticket purchases on Brown Paper Tickets.

Admission is $5 ages 17 and younger, $15 students and seniors, $20 general, through Brown Paper Tickets or call 206-238-3927.
