Haggen to close stores in Edmonds, Arlington

Bellingham-based Haggen, Inc. has announced the closure of two of its stores outside Whatcom County.

The TOP Food & Drug store in Edmonds and the Haggen store in Arlington will close within the next two months, the company announced Thursday, May 29.

Officials said the chain was unable to negotiate a lease renewal with the property owner.

The stores have about 150 employees combined. Some workers may be moved other Haggen stores.

Haggen has closed eight other stores since the start of 2013 as it continues to transform, focusing on customer service and premium local products. None of those closures have been in Whatcom County.
