Birch Bay-Lynden Road to close for construction after Memorial Day

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 25, 2014

BIRCH BAY - Birch Bay-Lynden Road will close to traffic just west of Portal Way starting Tuesday, May 27, for construction work at the railroad crossing.

The road is scheduled to reopen on June 8, but the work could be done sooner, a Whatcom County press release said.

Signs will mark the detour, from Portal Way to Grandview Road to Blaine Road. Whatcom Transportation Authority's Route 55 bus will not miss any stops but will run five to 10 minutes late, the agency said.

BNSF Railway will make improvements to the crossing as part of an upgrade to Birch Bay-Lynden Road's intersection with Portal Way. Crews are installing a traffic light and raising the intersection about three feet. The work is expected to be finished by November.
