Renter supports safety inspections

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 23, 2014

I am a tenant in Bellingham and I strongly support safe rental property legislation. Just because we are college students does not mean we can be treated with any less respect. I rented out a garage last year in my last house. Our rent was ridiculously high for the little amount of maintenance our house received. We had to deal with broken windows, constant mold and many other problems that our landlord would not address. We deserve a better standard of living.

I support the city of Bellingham passing an ordinance to register and inspect rental properties. If you pay rent and follow your responsibilities as a tenant, then you deserve to live in a safe house that is up to legal safety code.
