Ferndale finishes season short of state

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 21, 2014

Ferndale's girls' golf team couldn't advance any of the four golfers competing on Wednesday, May 21, at Snohomish Golf and Country Club. The Golden Eagle did, however, push forward with their goals of competing with the best.

"We still don't have a senior on the team," Ferndale coach Margie Hovde said in a phone interview. "We are happy to take four to the second day. We are getting awful close to qualifying someone for state."

Annie Jane Burns came closest to the 198 cut line by shooting a 102 on day two to finish with a total score of 203.

Jillian Anderson finished with a 209 after shooting a 102 in the second round.

"At the beginning of the year she took the max score in a JV match," Hovde said. "Now, she advanced to day two and was the second strongest golfer."

Cienna Semsak finished with a 104-106-210 and Nicole Morgan finished with a 110-118-228.

"We have our sights set on next year," Hovde said, "hopefully being able to push someone through to state. We are seeing great progress. I'm so proud of them."

Ferndale's season is over.
