Semiahmoo exhibit explore salmon fishing by sailboat in Bristol Bay

Tim Troll's "Sailing for Salmon" exhibit opens with a special program at 6 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Cannery Lodge building at Semiahmoo Park, 9261 Semiahmoo Parkway.

The exhibit is open 1 to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 1.

Sponsored by Drayton Harbor Maritime, Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department and by Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust, "Sailing for Salmon" is a nostalgic look through photographs and recollections at a time when salmon were harvested in Bristol Bay from sailboats.

Bristol Bay in Southwest Alaska is one of the great commercial fisheries of the world, with more than half of the Earth's sockeye salmon returning to the bay every year.
