Bellingham dominant on Day 1

Bellingham boys' golf's Cody Roth shot a 72 to lead all golfers at the Class 2A Bi-District Tournament preliminaries on Monday, May 19, at Skagit Golf and Country Club.

"Cody played very solid," Bellingham coach David Bobillot said in a phone interview. "He was kind of up and down, but he played even par coming in."

Bellingham placed four golfers in the top eight on day one, including second-place Rees Kruhlak at 74, Nick Nolan with 77 and Taylor Paul's 79.

"Our top four are playing great, and five and six certainly held their own," Bobillot said. "Rees had one of those days. This has been his potential and he hit it at the right time today. We're really excited and we're going to keep grinding away."

Lynden's Alex Crabtree and Ezra Arneson also finished among the leaders, each shooting a 76.

Squalicum's Tavo O'Connell shot an 83 to make the cut. Teammate Tanner Griffiths also made the cut with an 87.

Sehome's Thomas Mankle and Jeremy DeLisle made the cut with an 84 and 87, respectively.

Also making the cut from Bellingham were Austin Kohonen with an 82 and Ben Hendrickson with an 84.

Squalicum's Tyler Hoback and Logan Sitkin, Sehome's Alex Smith and Brady McDonnell, and Lynden's Collin Barclay, Casey Ward and Noah King all just missed the cut.

The Bi-District Tournament continues at noon, Tuesday, May 20, at Skagit Golf and Country Club.
