WWU concert features pieces with composers tied to university

Western Washington University faculty member Roger Briggs is among the featured composers in a free Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at WWU's Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

Western Washington University will host a free Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at WWU's Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

Led by conductors Zach Smith and Christopher Bianco, the concert will feature music spanning more than 150 years, and include contemporary music with ties to WWU.

The band will perform pieces by composers with a connection to the university, including pieces by Bertil van Boer Sr. (father of WWU faculty member Bertil van Boer), WWU faculty member Roger Briggs, WWU alum Pat Harlin, and a piece by Western undergraduate student composer and conductor Jon Bash.
