Merwyn Bay and Dorene Bay

May 18, 2014

Merwyn and Dorene Bay Merwyn and Dorene Bay will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 25th with an open house from noon to 4:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 7215 Valley View Road (between the Grandview and Bay Roads). They were married on May 28, 1954 at Birchwood Presbyterian Church (in the original church building then located on Birchwood Avenue) in Bellingham. Their first home was on Merwyn's family dairy farm near Maple Falls. They lived in the log house now known as Gerdrum House at Silver Lake Park, a Whatcom County Park. In 1956 they purchased a 100 acre farm at the NE corner of the Kickerville and Birch-Bay Lynden Roads where they raised their four children: Gordon "Gordy" Bay of Ferndale, Catherine "Cathy" Baker of St. Anthony, New Foundland, Canada, Gladys Evans of Spokane, and Dennis Bay of Bellingham. For a number of years, the family ran the dairy farm, and later raised beef cattle. Merywn worked for Noranda Copper, then later as an insurance agent. Merwyn and Dorene purchased a motorhome and spent many vacation days, and later retirement days, traveling with family and friends. These days Merwyn and Dorene raise a large vegetable garden and sell the produce from their home. They look forward to greeting old and new friends who stop by the farm either to purchase vegetables or just to visit. Besides their 4 children, Merwyn and Dorene have 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children.
