"The Mountain Runners," the story of the Mount Baker Marathon in the early 1900s, screens at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at The Pickford Film Center, 1318 Bay St.

First run in 1911, the grueling race from Bellingham to the summit of Mount Baker and back lasted only three years due to its intrepid dangers.

Told in docudrama style and created by local filmmakers and actors, the film incorporates vintage images, historic film, visual graphics and 3D effects and recreated dramatizations.
