Ferndale athletes move on to district meet

Ferndale freshman Ben Broselle had the top javelin throw of 164 feet, 10 inches during the Class 2A/3A Sub-District Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 16, at Civic Stadium.

The top Golden Eagle placer in each event at the meet earned a spot into Class 3A Northwest District Championships, which will be held Wednesday, May 21, and Friday, May 23, at Shoreline Stadium. They will be joined by the top 10 Wesco finishers and the next best five marks from last week's competition in each event in Wednesday's preliminaries.

Also posting top marks for the Ferndale boys were Roberto Aguilera, who was fourth in the 3,200 meters (9:53.23) and seventh in the 1,600 (4:35.07); the 4x100 relay team of Markus Hager, Broselle, Dalton Cristelli and Jordan Cristelli, which was seventh in 47.74; Shane Stockton, who was third in the discus (146-07); Donovan Campeau, who was third in the pole vault (13-0); and Carson Genger, who was eighth in the high jump (5-2.)

On the girls' side, the 4x100 relay of Cheyenne Joshua, Jordin Bartel, Madison Smith and Darrien Camarillo finished sixth (54.25), the 4x200 relay of Smith, Camarillo, Katelyn Neher and Christiana Salinas was sixth (1:56..37), Camarillo placed eighth in the javelin (82-04), Bartel was fourth in the high jump (4-8) and Gabriella Gould was third in the pole vault (10-0).
