Lummi's Enrique Medina took first in three events for the boys' track and field team at the Class 1B Bi-District Track and Field Meet Friday, May 16, at Stanwood High School.
Medina won the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 1.96 seconds, and the 400 in 54.99. He also won the 1,600 with a 4:57.62 and took fourth in the 3,200 with a 13:40.52.
"He's a really hard-working kid," Lummi coach Josh Shimek said in a phone interview. "He puts in the time year-round and is really self-motivated. When he runs he has a lot of guts."
Deion Hoskins took first in the shot put with a put of 44 feet, 7.25 inches. Hank Hoskins took fourth in the event with a 37-06.50.
For the Blackhawks' girls' team, eighth-grader Sabryn Tom took fourth in the 400 with a 1:21.51 to qualify for the Quad-District Meet next week.
"This year was Sabryn's first time running," Shimek said. "She likes being part of the team, likes to participate. She always has a smile and wants to try something new. She tried quite a few events this year and had a good attitude."
Anthony Decoteao also competed for the Blackhawks, taking third in the high jump with a 5-00 and third in the 3,200 with a 13:39.46.
The Class 1B Quad-District Meet takes place on Thursday, May 22, at Port Angeles High School.
