Blaine's Dolk wins District title

Blaine singles tennis player Saskia Dolk won three matches to take first place Friday, May 16, in the Class 1A District I Tennis Tournament at South Whidbey High School.

Dolk cruised through her first match 6-1, 6-0, beat Coupeville's Ali Hanigan 6-1, 6-4 in her second match and beat teammate Alex Henderson by forfeit in the title match.

Finishing second, Henderson also advances to next weeks Class 1A Tri-District Tournament at the Amy Yee Tennis Center in Seattle.

"I think our singles players played really well and doubles played really well, but they lost some points here and there," Blaine coach John Freal said in a phone interview.

Nooksack Valley's Abby Steele beat Hanigan 7-5, 7-6 and will be an alternate for the tournament.
