Mariners go hitless in season's final game

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 15, 2014

Sehome's softball team only had one batter reach base in a 10-0 Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, May 15, at Burlington-Edison in both teams' regular-season finale.

Tigers' Riley VanderVeen had nine strikeouts, one walk and no hits allowed in the five-inning game.

"We were overmatched," Sehome coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. "We were a little flat and we didn't come out ready. She took advantage of that."

Sehome (7-11, 6-6 NWC) didn't have any seniors and Emerson hopes all his players will be back next year to improve on this season.

"Hopefully we can play together as a squad and keep working at it," he said.
