Blaine boys' soccer beats South Whidbey

Blaine's boys' soccer team defeated South Whidbey 2-1 in penalty kicks to take fifth place in the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament on Thursday, May 15, at Sammamish High School.

Garren Economy scored on a free kick in the 74th minute to tie the game after the Falcons scored in the first 10 minutes.

In penalty kicks, Konner VanRijswick, Nick Butschli, John Cochran and Economy scored. Goalkeeper Tristan Hunter stopped two shots in the penalty kicks.

"Tristan was the man of the match," Blaine coach Giovanni Quesada said in a phone interview. "He made amazing saves all game. He kept pushing the team to go, go and score."

The Borderites will advance to the Class 1A State Tournament, beginning Monday, May 19. The time, place and opponent are still to be determined.
