THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

Ferndale's girls' tennis duo of Carly Bannerman and Shelby Slaughter couldn't quite keep up in the Class 3A Wesco South Tournament championship match on Wednesday, May 14, at Glacier Peak High School.

Bannerman and Slaughter fell to doubles team Allison Lorraine and Tina Liu from Mountlake Terrace 6-4, 6-3.

In both sets, Ferndale pulled to 3-1 leads, but Liu was too dominant of a player.

"It was a well-fought match," Ferndale coach Ed Sweitzer said in a phone interview. "Tina Liu was an extremely good player and took over the match. We couldn't get the momentum back."

Bannerman and Slaughter still advance to the district tournament as the No. 2 seed hoping to finish in the top three and make it to state.

"They will battle," Sweitzer said. "I think they have a good shot."
