Lynden wins both games of doubleheader


Lynden's softball team won a pair of games against Blaine on Wednesday, May 14, at Lynden.

The first game was a Northwest Conference game and the Lions (12-6, 8-4 NWC) took it 13-3 in six innings. They were led by Jenna Bonsen at the plate. She went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

In the first game, Tanna Benson picked up her sixth win of the season.

Game 2 went the same as the first, with Lynden pulling away early. The Lions scored 10 runs in the first before coasting to a 17-2 non-conference victory in four innings.

Bonsen was again the star at the plate. She had two doubles and five RBI in the second game. Hannah Rothwell picked up her sixth win of the season.

Blaine (11-9, 7-5 NWC) had a strong performance from Baylee Foster on the day. She went 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI between the two games.

"Blaine's a good team and they're well-coached," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "We fortunate to hit some balls and find holes.

Lynden moves into the 2A district tournament on Wednesday, May 21, at Janicki Fields. Blaine plays in the 1A district tournament on Friday, May 16, at Janicki.
