Toivola throws no-hitter, Baker wins 16-0

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 14, 2014

Mount Baker pitcher Aleks Toivola threw a four-inning no-hitter to help the Mountaineers' softball team earn a regular-season ending 16-0 Northwest Conference win Wednesday, May 14, in Deming.

Toivola struck out three and let her defense do the rest of the work.

"Defense played solid behind her," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "It was senior day today, the last home game, and the girls did a nice job of bouncing back and taking care or business."

Mount Baker scored nine runs through the first three innings and added seven more in the fourth to end the game.

Chyanne Ortloff, Emma Lallas, Lacey Postlewait, Emily Brandland and Sara Verry each had multi-hit games.

Mount Baker (14-6, 8-4 NWC) begins the Class 1A District Tournament with the first of two games at 4 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley.
