Ada County plans to build a bridge over a popular Foothills trail to improve safety

The county will build the bridge on the Flow trail where it crosses the Junk Yard trail in the Ada-Eagle Sports Complex off Horseshoe Bend Road.

The Board of Ada County Commissioners gave the go-ahead on Monday to build the $30,000 to $45,000 bridge once it gets permission from the city of Eagle to use its design plans.

The Eagle City Council on Tuesday night unanimously agreed to give the county its bridge design plans.

Eagle built the .62-mile downhill bike trail, called a flow trail, last year on land it leases from the county. The city intended to build a bridge on the trail where it intersects the popular Junk Yard trail. While constructing the trail, the city and county got in a dispute over how the city could use the land it leases from the county. To resolve the dispute the county agreed to sell part of the park to the city and terminate the lease for the remaining portion of the park, which is now back under the county's control.

Since the Flow trail was not part of the city's purchase, the city did not complete the trail by building the bridge.

This week, after meeting with its Parks & Waterways Department, the Board of County Commissioners decided it is in the best interest of trail users to build the bridge to close the gap in the Flow trail and eliminate the potentially hazardous intersection with the Junk Yard trail.
