Concerned about fuel transportation

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 14, 2014

I believe the sale of the Ferndale port to Petrogas Energy is yet another sad and disturbing event in the conversion of our once clean and peaceful town into a giant transit and export hub for dirty and/or dangerous carbon-based fuels. Not only will hydrocarbon liquids be arriving in quantity from North Dakota but now also from Calgary.

Aside from the disruption of normal civic life by the endless parade of freight trains, we can, from recent events, be certain that major, and probably disastrous, spills, derailments and fires will occur along the rail corridor though Fairhaven and the waterfront.

If nothing can be done to stop this madness, perhaps it is time for the more thoughtful of our populace to, in real estate jargon, relo.
