Nick Butschli had a goal and an assist for Blaine's boys' soccer team in its 2-1 Class 1A Tri-District Tournament win over Vashon Island on Tuesday, May 13, at Bonney Lake.

The Borderites advance to the fifth-place game at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Interlake High School.

Zack Oakley opened scoring for the Borderites in the eighth minute, assisted by Butschli.

After Vashon tied the game in the 12th minute, Butschli scored the go-ahead goal in the 36th minute. Garren Economy assisted on the goal.

"Garren had a nice pass over the defense and Nick dribbled in and had a beautiful shot into the right corner," Blaine coach Giovanni Quesada said in a phone interview. "My midfield and defense had to deal with a lot of pressure. Their intensity was amazing but our defense stepped up and made the play."

Luke Zuzarte led the defensive stand for the Borderites, but the entire back line was solid, Quesada added.
