Borderites roll over Sedro-Woolley

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 13, 2014

Blaine's softball team had an offensive explosion of 13 hits to take an 11-3 win over Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, May 13, at Blaine in a Northwest Conference game.

Sam Southland led the Borderites, going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, a double and a run scored.

"(Southland) is kind of a rotational player who doesn't get a lot of starts and on her senior day she just went crazy on offense," Blaine coach Alisa Burk said in a phone interview. "On the first pitch, Lexi Greguski led off with a double. We scored on a squeeze play in the first and that just set the momentum."

A six-run fifth inning was also key in the Borderites' victory. Riley Miller went 2 for 3 with three RBI and three runs. Alexis McElwain took the win in the circle and was 3 for 4 with two runs.

Blaine plays a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Lynden.
