Bellingham trio only non-Mariners to advance


Bellingham's Kira Vazorka is the only girls' tennis singles player not attending Sehome to advance to the Class 2A Bi-District Tournament. Vazorka took third at the Sub-District Tournament on Tuesday, May 13, at Sehome High School.

Vazorka defeated Sehome's Ali Morrow 6-3, 6-4 to take third place at the tournament.

Her Bellingham teammates, the doubles team of Catie Welch and Ellie Iwerson, were the only non-Sehome doubles team to advance. They took fourth, losing the third-place match to the Mariners' Natalie Knops and Emily Webster 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.

Sehome's Lauren Smith won the singles' championship over teammate Andrea Clawson 6-2, 6-1. The Mariners' team of Lizzy Friesen/Simone Hall also defeated teammates in their 6-3, 6-3 championship win over Taylor and Madison Harris.

Squalicum's Sarah Byron and Rachel Dorr will be doubles alternates to Bi-Districts, and Sedro-Woolley's Kassidee Beuse will be the singles' alternate.

The Class 2A Bi-District Tournament begins Monday, May 19, in Granite Falls.
