Ferndale softball wins tight game over Lynden

The Ferndale softball team continued its march toward a undefeated Northwest Conference season with a 3-2 league win Tuesday, May 13, over Lynden at home.

Lauren Maley improved to 17-1 on the season after pitching a complete game, giving up seven hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Scarlett Nyenhuis was 1-3 with a double for the Golden Eagles and Abigail Bauthues was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Ferndale coach Holly Hilton said this was the type of game she liked to see from her NWC champs at this point of the season.

"Tonight's performance is a game that would be like district play. Lynden is a strong team," Hilton said in a phone interview of the error-free game. "We haven't had a game like that for awhile with how our schedule is so it was nice to see that we can play tough defense when we need to."

Tanna Benson struck out six but took the loss for the Lions, and Hannah Rothwell went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Elisa Kooiman and Benson each had a double.

Ferndale (17-1, 11-0) finishes the regular season with a 4 p.m. NWC game on Wednesday, May 14, at Bellingham and Lynden (10-5, 7-3) has completed its regular season.
