Sehome keeps postseason hopes alive with win over Nooksack Valley

Mallory Kruzich scattered four hits and three walks in a shutout, and the Sehome softball team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 4-0 win over Nooksack Valley on Tuesday, May 13.

"It was probably our most complete game this year," Mariners coach Jim Emerson said in a phone interview. "We didn't make any errors. We didn't get a lot of hits, but Mallory pitched a good game, and we did a lot of little things to get the job done."

Sehome (7-10, 4-5 NWC) entered the day one game behind Anacortes for the final NWC's final berth to the Class 2A Bi-District Tournament.

The game was scoreless entering the bottom of the fourth, when Morgan Henry was intentionally walked and was moved over by Jessica Vaught's sacrifice bunt. Jenny McIntyre singled Henry home, before Kruzich, who struck out five, drove in McIntyre to make it 2-0. Vaught plated two more runs in the fifth.

Chloe Gardner went 1 for 2 with a walk for the Pioneers (7-11, 3-8).

Nooksack Valley wraps up its regular season on Wednesday, May 14, when it hosts Lynden Christian, while Sehome travels to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, May 15.
