Pioneers pull to win


Nooksack Valley's softball team scored five runs in the first inning and rolled to a 15-0 victory in four innings over Bellingham in a Northwest Conference game on Monday, May 12, at Nooksack.

"We were able to take some pretty good approaches at the plate," Nooksack coach Tom Harmon said in a phone interview. "I was pleased to see a steady job at the plate. We got some good pitches and were able to capitalize on a few walks."

Nooksack (7-10, 3-7 NWC) was led at the plate by Brianna Turner's two RBI and Chloe Gardner's home run. On the mound Alexis Pike got the win, pitching three innings. Kayla Struiksma pitched the final inning for the save.

"They were both able to hit their spots," Harmon said.

Bellingham (4-12, 1-10 NWC) got two hits in the game - one from Lindsey Richard and the other from Justina Allen.

Nooksack Valley finishes its regular season at home against Lynden Christian on Wednesday, May 14. Bellingham plays Ferndale on Wednesday at home.
