Lions' big inning not enough

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 12, 2014

Lynden's softball team had one big five-run inning, but couldn't overcome Sedro-Woolley, losing 6-5 in a Northwest Conference game on Monday, May 12, at Janicki Field.

The Cubs had pulled to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings, but the Lions (10-5, 7-3 NWC) stormed back in the third inning.

"We took advantage of the pitcher struggling a bit," Lynden coach Steve Petersen said in a phone interview. "She put a couple girls on and we got a couple clutch hits."

Sedro-Woolley scored the game-winner in the fifth inning after a clutch two-out hit by the Cubs.

"We thought we had the girl picked off," Petersen said. "She was called safe on a pick-off play and got moved over by a bunt and then they had a clutch two-out hit."

Lynden plays Ferndale on Tuesday, May 13, on the road.
