Says verbal racism just a beginning

COURTESY TO THE BELLINGHAM HERALDMay 12, 2014

Not only is Clippers owner Donald Sterling hard-hearted, I believe he is a fool for his inability to acknowledge his wealth from this sport comes often from highly talented black basketball players.

We are highly exercised about his racist remarks, but let's be honest about the facts: black kids are not given equal education as our kids, black men have a higher unemployment rate than ours, black women are at the lowest rung of the employment ladder and black males suffer the greatest percentage of incarceration and receive longer sentences than we do.

I am grudgingly grateful that at least we are starting to recognize and object to verbal racism, but it's just the smallest beginning. We need to move far beyond the tch-tch of indignation by acknowledging what we choose not to see and demanding more.
