Golden Eagles lose in first round of districts

Ferndale's baseball team was on the losing end of a pitchers' duel, falling 1-0 to Mountlake Terrace in the first round of the 3A Northwest District Tournament on Saturday, May 10, at Mountlake.

Brady Bauthues only allowed three hits over six innings, but all three came in a row in the fourth inning.

"We played a real clean game. Bauthues pitched his tail off," Ferndale coach Donny Hennigs said in a phone interview. "It was a well-played game which is what you expect when you get to this point. We were just on the wrong side of it this day."

Ferndale got hits from Joey Akers, Kyler Brudwick and Colin Wagner. Akers' hit was a double.

"We got guys into scoring position, we just couldn't get that two-out hit," Hennigs said.

Ferndale will play the loser between Meadowdale and Marysville-Pilchuck on Tuesday, May 13.

"Hopefully we can get back after it on Tuesday and continue our season," Hennigs said.
